Families, students and the wider community will benefit from improved outdoor facilities at Mary Brooksbank School in Campbelltown following a $20,000 grant from the Premier’s discretionary fund.
The funding will support the installation of a new accessible community barbecue area, helping create a more welcoming and functional outdoor space for students, families and community members.
The project will also increase opportunities for the school to participate in the NSW Government’s Share Our Space program, ensuring local families have access to a fit-for-purpose and accessible outdoor recreational area outside school hours.
The upgrade will strengthen community connections, provide improved facilities for school events and gatherings, and create a more accessible space for children and families to enjoy.
“We want our school to be a place where families feel welcome and connected,’’ said school principal Kevin Thoms.
“The new barbecue area will create a warm and welcoming space where students, families and staff can come together and enjoy being part of our school community.
“Importantly, the barbecue area and outdoor space will also be available to families participating in the Share Our Space program, extending the benefits of this facility beyond the school day and into the broader community.’’
NSW Premier Chris Minns visited the school for the grant announcement.
“Schools are at the heart of our communities, and this investment will help ensure Mary Brooksbank School can continue providing an inclusive and welcoming space for students, families and local residents,’’ he said.
“The Share Our Space program is about opening up quality public spaces for communities to enjoy, and this project will create new opportunities for families to come together, connect and make the most of this fantastic school facility.’’
The Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren said Mary Brooksbank School plays an incredibly important role in our community, supporting students and families with a strong focus on inclusion, learning and wellbeing.
“This funding will help transform an outdoor area into a more functional and welcoming space where families can gather, celebrate school events and enjoy quality time together,’’ he said.
“I am delighted to see this investment delivered for Mary Brooksbank School and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on students, parents and the broader community.’’
