Police use capsicum spray to restraint 87 year old in aged care

Police are about to address the media following an incident at a South West Sydney aged care home yesterday.

Just before 8pm yesterday (Wednesday, November 19), officers attached to Camden Police Area Command attended an aged care facility in the local area, in response to reports of concern for the welfare of a resident.

The man had reportedly threatened to harm other residents and himself, while armed with a metal object, swinging it at staff, who locked themselves in a room.

Upon arrival, officers located the 87-year-old man in the foyer, still armed with the metal ornament. He refused police direction to put it down and OC spray was deployed.

The man was restrained and assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Campbelltown Hospital for assessment.

Nil physical injuries were reported during the incident.

Camden Police Area Command are reviewing the incident.

They were due to address the media t 4.30pm today (Friday).

A driver died after a ute and an SUV collided in Burragorang Road, Glenmore.

Emergency services called to Bthe scene last Saturday evening around 5pm found the 71-year-old man driving the SUV critically injured. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

A 64-year-old woman travelling in the SUV was treated for arm injuries before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

A 70-year-old man driving the ute was treated for minor injuries and taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.

A passenger in the ute, a 62-year-old woman, was not injured.

Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command have established a crime scene and an investigation into the cause of the crash.
