Police officer’s alleged possession of child abuse material

A local police officer has been charged with allegedly possessing child abuse material.

It follows an investigation launched in June by officers attached to the Professional Standards Command into reports an officer was allegedly in possession of child abuse material.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 25-year-old constable, attached to the South West Metropolitan Region, at Campbelltown Police Station on Tuesday morning.

He was charged with possessing child abuse material.

The officer was granted conditional bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court on October 10.

He has been suspended with pay and his employment status with the NSW Police Force is under review.

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a man missing from Campbelltown.

They say that Cheyne Paterson, aged 40, was last seen on Corunna Avenue, Leumeah, about 5am last Saturday.

When he failed to return home and could not be located or contacted, officers attached to Camden Police Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.

Police and family hold serious concerns for his welfare.

Cheyne is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 175cm-180cm tall, of thin build, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He is known to frequent the Narellan Vale area.

He may be travelling around Sunny Corner area, between Lithgow and Bathurst in a white Toyota utility with NSW registration EZA83S.
