St Andrews man allegedly put poison in woman’s tea

A man will appear in Campbelltown Local Court today charged after a woman was allegedly poisoned.

Officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command established Strike Force Southport in September 2024, and commenced an investigation into reports of an alleged poisoning.

A 66-year-old woman became seriously ill after drinking tea which police will allege in court was prepared by a man known to her.

Following inquiries, police attended a home on Lanark Place, St Andrews, about 11.25am yesterday (Tuesday, October 8), and arrested a 61-year-old man (pictured above).

Police have also seized a bottle of an insecticide, which has been sent for forensic examination.

The man was taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with a number of offences relating to the alleged poisoning.

They include using poison with the intention to murder, endanger life and inflict grievous bodily harm.

He has been refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today (Wednesday, October 9).
