A police officer has been charged after allegedly assaulting a woman in South Western Sydney while on duty responding to a domestic violence call.

The officer will appear before Picton Local Court on July 31.

His employment status with the NSW Police Force is currently under review.

Police say they were called to a home in South West Metropolitan Region on March 21 this year, following reports of a domestic violence incident.

It’s alleged that during the interaction with police a 20-year-old woman was assaulted by an officer.

An internal investigation was held into the circumstances surrounding the alleged actions of the officer involved.

Following the investigation, a 35-year-old senior constable attached to the South West Metropolitan Region was issued a court attendance notice for the offence of common assault.
