Campbelltown Liverpool District Pistol club’s most recent championship event attracted competitors from around the state.
Fifty athletes from Canberra, Goulburn, Ulladulla, Central Coast, and a number of Sydney based clubs all competed over two days at the range, located in bushland near the centre of Campbelltown.
Sports pistol, centrefire sports, and air pistol were included in the various competitions held last weekend (October 26 and 27).
The club’s range boasts Olympic /international style electronic targets, similar to those many would have seen at the recent Paris Olympics.
The range caters for varying disciplines of pistol shooting that include 10m, 25m and 50m ranges.
The Campbelltown Liverpool Districts Pistol Club is nearly 56 years old in its current location and currently boasts about 250 members. People from all walks of life are members, both men and women.
Quite a few members have represented NSW, and several have represented Australia over the years.
One life member of the club won 14 Commonwealth medals, another won one medal.
One of the past members was Patti Dench, a Macarthur region resident who won Australia’s first ever Olympic shooting medal, a bronze, at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.
The club is open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings and welcomes visitors to come along and see the matches and have a chat with the members.
Competitions are held throughout the year.
If you would like to try your hand at pistol shooting the club hold try shooting events regularly.
