Wollondilly Shire Council and Picton Rangers Soccer Club have secured $3.2 million in funding to transform the amenities at Picton Sportsground.
It includes extensions to the existing building to add home and away change rooms, a club room, a multipurpose room including space for emergency services, improvements to the existing canteen, storage, referees’ rooms, a first aid room, an outdoor barbecue area, spectator seating and connection to town water.
Work will begin on site soon and the facility should be completed and ready for use by August.
There will be minimal disruptions to the use of the grounds and existing building while works are under way.
The massive upgrade is part of a huge investment into playgrounds and sportsgrounds right across the Wollondilly Shire, from Warragamba to Yanderra.
“I’m delighted to see that the Picton Sportsground amenities building will receive such a huge upgrade,’’ said Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould.
“The extension will more than double the footprint of the existing building and will now comfortably accommodate local teams, visiting clubs and spectators.
“Thank you to Picton Rangers Soccer Club, who secured two grants for the project including the 2019 sports election commitment program with the NSW office of sport and the Black Summer bushfire recovery grant through the Commonwealth Government, Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources.
“I appreciate the funding from both the NSW and Federal Governments.
“It will completely transform the Picton Sportsground facility,” he said.
