Seeing entertainer Warren Kermond will be an extra reason for Wollondilly residents to flock to this year’s Australia Day celebrations in the Picton Botanic Gardens on Thursday, January 26.
Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould for one is looking forward to having Mr Kermond, who has been announced as the shire’s Australia Day ambassador for this year.
“Council and the community would like to welcome Mr Warren Kermond as our Wollondilly ambassador for 2023,’’ Mayor Gould said.
“We are looking forward to seeing him on stage and we’re honoured to have such a well-travelled entertainer as our Australia Day ambassador.”
Mr Kermond grew up in a show business family and has been involved in numerous aspects of the entertainment industry, including theatre, pantomime, television, cabaret and musical theatre.
He has performed in stage productions in Australia and internationally – including New Zealand, Japan, Zimbabwe, South Africa and the USA – and has appeared in television commercials both in Australia and overseas.
At home he appeared regularly on In Melbourne Tonight and other national television shows.
He had his own TV show in Adelaide and has performed at some of Australia’s major theatres and cabaret venues.
His own variety show production starred three generations of Kermonds including his son Wayne and grandson Zan.
Mr Kermond, who has received an OAM, has also been involved with Variety the Children’s Charity since 1989 and has been on the national board for more than 20 years.
He’s now an international ambassador and honorary life member of Variety NSW.
Currently he is also chairman of the Australian Entertainment M0 Awards.
Wollondilly’s Australia Day celebrations start from 8am and continue until 12 noon in the Picton Botanic Gardens. Keep an eye out on council’s website and Facebook page for regular updates.
