Tomorrow night’s Federal Budget will include $95.6 million for the planning and scoping of Picton Bypass and safety upgrades to Picton Road.
Wollondilly Council has been strongly advocating for the Picton Bypass to create a safe evacuation route for residents in emergency situations and provide alternative access through the town centre when the historic Victoria Bridge (pictured above) is closed.
It would also address the general increase in traffic caused by growing populations in surrounding towns.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor, who announced the inclusion of Wollondilly projects funding in the Federal Budget, said planning works were expected to be completed by mid-2024.
“The Federal Government’s record infrastructure investment pipeline continues to deliver better outcomes for the people of Wollondilly,” Mr Taylor said.
“This funding will make roads in this area safer, reduce travel times, congestion and give locals the roads they need and deserve.
“This is all part of our plan to make sure Wollondilly is one of the best places in Australia to live, work and raise a family.
“This investment through the 2022-23 Budget builds on the substantial investment our government has already made in Wollondilly.
“We recognise how important it is to get road upgrades happening in the Wollondilly region, which is why we have already provided $72 million for safety upgrades to Appin Road and over $8 million for safety upgrades on Silverdale Road,” said Mr Taylor, pictured below on Picton Road.
Wollondilly Mayor Matt Gould has also welcomed the announcement of $95.6 million towards the Picton Bypass and Picton Road projects.
“I’m excited to hear about this funding which goes towards addressing the infrastructure deficit in this growth area, particularly in relation to the Picton Bypass,’’ Cr Gould said.
- Tomorrow night’s Federal Budget also includes additional funding for existing projects, including $65 million for the M5 Motorway – Moorebank Avenue – Hume Highway Intersection upgrade.
Does anybody know the cost of the Picton Bypass ? Nathaniel Smith was asking for money in State Parliament last week but he never said a figure. I am not even sure he knew how much he was asking for.
