Some paramedics go beyond the call of duty to make a difference in other ways. One of them is our own Jason Kirkaldy, a highly respected paramedic from Campbelltown Ambulance Station, who has quietly built a movement around mental health and wellbeing.

Jason, who’s been a paramedic for 15 years, founded the “Pacemakers” running group, encouraging staff to walk, run, and connect.

His work with the NSW Ambulance Staff Health team has helped colleagues build confidence and reach personal milestones like running their first 5km.

Jason is also a passionate advocate for men’s mental health, creating safe spaces for open conversations and organising charity events that blend fitness, community, and purpose.

This Friday (September 19), this inspirational paramedic will receive a certificate of appreciation as part of NSW Ambulance Appreciation Day.

He will be one of several paramedics who will have the spotlight on them for going beyond the call of duty.

As part of the day eight ambulance stations across metropolitan and regional areas will be opening their doors to the public from 11am to 2pm.

In Macarthur,  Macquarie Fields Ambulance Station at 6 Brooks Street, Macquarie Fields will be taking part in the open day.

It will be an opportunity for people to meet their local paramedics and NSW Ambulance staff, tour their station, learn more about the service, and say a personal thank you for the extraordinary work NSW Ambulance staff do every day.  “NSW Ambulance paramedics are there for us when we need them most, responding to everything from medical emergencies to motor vehicle accidents and disasters, providing expert mobile health care with professionalism and compassion,’’ says NSW minister for health Ryan Park.

“This is a chance for the community to meet these incredible men and women, hear their stories, and let them know how much they are valued.”

NSW Ambulance chief executive Dominic Morgan said the day is a chance to recognise the exceptional care paramedics provide in the most critical moments.

“This day helps strengthen the vital bond between NSW Ambulance and the communities we serve, while also shining a light on the services we provide and the essential role we play in the state’s healthcare system.”
