All things being equal, this year’s Festival of Fisher’s Ghost Street Parade should be one of the best ones ever held.
The 2026 festival will mark a big milestone: 70 years since it was held way back in 1956.
And as if that’s not enough to make 2026 very special, it will also be the 200th anniversary of the sighting of discovery of Fred Fisher’s ghost, and eventually his body, in 1826.
The legend of Fred Fisher and his ghost live on in history’s pages, and in the past 70 years through the annual festival.
And the parade, which was for a long time the heart and soul of the festival, lost some of its appeal and it was decided in 2019 to put aside for a while.
But now it’s back, and thanks to robust support from all stakeholders it could end being a parsed to remember.
One if the key backers is current mayor Darcy Lound, who is keen to see the parade be a success in 2026.
“The Fisher’s Ghost Parade is a cherished part of the history of The Festival of Fisher’s Ghost,’’ he says.
“It brings our community together to celebrate Campbelltown’s rich history, creativity and community spirit in the heart of our city centre.
“It’s been inspiring to see the enthusiasm and passion from across our community for this parade, through the great work of our Festival of Fisher’s Ghost Committee, community members and my fellow councillors, who’ve helped establish this event as a highlight of our 2026 anniversary program,” he said.
“We have a fantastic opportunity to make this year’s event a truly memorable anniversary, so I strongly encourage our community, cultural groups, sporting clubs, schools, businesses and residents to apply to enter their float and join us for what promises to be a spectacular event.’’
The parade will be on Saturday, October 31, 2pm to 4pm.
Local businesses, schools and community groups are invited to submit their expressions of interest to join The Festival of Fisher’s Ghost Street Parade through Council’s website.
Expressions of interest will close 11.50pm on August 23.
