Camden residents are reminded local playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gyms are closed and cannot be used.
As per the Federal Government’s announcement, all outdoor facilities have been closed and taped off, to minimise the risk of Covid-19 spreading.
As of 8pm on Sunday, April 12 NSW Health figures showed that 36 Camden residents had tested positive to the coronavirus.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said these laws had been put in place for the safety of the community.
“It is concerning to hear some residents have gone against these restrictions and cut down the tape around our playgrounds to use them,” Cr Fedeli said.
“I know how difficult these circumstances are, but it is important we all do the right thing.
“These restrictions were put in place by the Prime Minister of Australia and are enforceable by NSW Police. The maximum penalty being $11,000 or imprisonment of six months.
“I encourage residents to still exercise daily to help keep healthy, clear the mind and get some fresh air.
“You are still able to go for a nice walk by yourself, and even with one other person as long as you are practicing social distancing. You do not have to break the law and use closed facilities to do this.
“We are all in this together and if we work as one, we will get through it and be back to our daily lifestyle.”
Residents are also encouraged to keep in contact with Camden Council, despite the recent closure of face-to-face customer service centres.
There have been a number of changes in council’s service delivery to help minimise the impact of COVID-19 spreading.
Despite these changes, residents can still:
- Contact council’s customer service staff from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm, by calling 4654 7777 or emailing mail@camden.nsw.gov.au;
- Make payments online or over the phone;
- Fill out and lodge a number of forms and applications online, at https://www.camden.nsw.gov.au/payments-and-forms/;
- Lodge a DA online;
- Access a range of library eResources at http://www.library.camden.nsw.gov.au/e-resources;
- Use the OurCamden app, which has a number of functions including lodging a customer service request and reporting a hazard;
- Update their pet’s details online;
- Have their waste collected weekly, as per usual;
- Book in building and driveway inspections;
- Contact council’s duty planner for advice, by calling 4654 7777; and
- Visit Camden general cemetery.
Cr Fedeli said the community’s safety was of paramount importance.
“Council staff are still 100 per cent there for our residents, even though we can’t physically be there at this time,” Cr Fedeli said.
“There are so many ways to get in touch with us for whatever you might need. Our staff are ready and waiting to assist with any request or community need.’’
