Want to see first hand the work of a disability enterprise? Here’s your chance: the Flagstaff Group, a not-for-profit disability enterprise, will throw open the doors to their Smeaton Grange premises later this month.

People with disabilities, schools, families, carers, businesses and the community in general are all invited to the Flagstaff Group open day on Thursday, September 19.

The open day will start from 11am and will continue until 2pm at the premises, located at 3/48 Dunn Road, Smeaton Grange.

“This is a great way to show the community the work Flagstaff does in the Macarthur region,’’ says Flagstaff’s CEO, Rod Clark, pictured above speaking during the opening of the Smeaton Grange premises a year ago.

“Everyone is welcome to join the open day and experience different activities designed to support people with disability to gain life skills and employment opportunities,’’ he said.

“Whether you are a school, local business, carer, person with a disability, or a community member who wants to learn more, please visit us on the Thursday, 19 September to see how we support people with disability.”

The Flagstaff team at Smeaton Grange provide a number of services to local people with disabilities, including school-to-work programs, customised employment pathways, health and fitness, dietician assistance, individual support and social and capacity-building programs.

The Open Day event includes:

Guided tours of the Flagstaff site showcasing ongoing initiatives and allowing visitors learn what the supports are available to people with disability.

Hands on activities – Choose an activity to try such as tradie training woodwork, 3D printing, cooking loaded cookies, virtual reality sessions, or a fitness challenge in the accessible fitness area.

At 11.30 am, the Flagstaff team will present a talk on future supported employment opportunities in the region and introduce two new programs.

One is Access2Work, a customised employment model providing career opportunities to people who have an NDIS job goal.

The second is called We Belong – a community and social participation program.

Bus transport for schools can be arranged to take part in the Open Day.
