Off-duty cop, 22, charged, licence suspended over speeding

An off-duty police officer has been charged with driving offences following a vehicle stop near Campbelltown yesterday morning.

The officer’s licence was suspended and his employment is currently under review.

Officers attached to Campbelltown Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement on Camden Valley Way, Gregory Hills just before 9am when they stopped a vehicle after it was allegedly detected travelling at 200km/h in an 80km/h zone.

The driver – a 22-year-old man – was subjected to roadside breath and drug tests, which both returned negative results.

The man, a constable attached to a South West Metropolitan Region command, was issued a Court Attendance Notice for organising or promoting or taking part in race, driving in manner speed dangerous, and exceed the speed limit by more than 45kph.

The man is due to appear before Picton Local Court on July 23.

In a separate incident, a man has been charged after three people were injured during an alleged domestic violence-related incident ear Liverpool on the weekend.

Emergency services called to a home on Supply Avenue, Lurnea found a 15-year-old girl with a laceration to her face, and two women, aged 21 and 42, with minor injuries.

They were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before the 15-year-old was taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command launched an investigation, and following inquiries they arrested a 19-year-old man.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with three counts of wounding a person to cause grievous bodily harm (Domestic Violence), and three counts of knowingly contravene prohibition in AVO (Domestic).

The man was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court.
