A second man has been arrested in Queensland after shots were allegedly fired at police during a pursuit from Edensor Park to Campbelltown earlier this week.
The incident started after police responded to reports of a man attempting to gain entry to a home on Calaria Close, Edensor Park in the early hours of the morning on New Year’s Eve.
On arrival, officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command were told two people, believed to be armed with a firearm, left the scene in a Hyundai sedan.
Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A short time later, police observed the Hyundai travelling on Cowpasture Road, Hinchinbrook and attempted to stop the vehicle.
When the Hyundai failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated; however, was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
Police will allege an occupant of the vehicle fired shots towards pursuing police, impacting the bonnet of the police vehicle (pictured above). No police officers were injured.
The Hyundai crashed on St Andrews Road, Varroville about 1.50am, after road spikes were successfully deployed.
The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man, was arrested while the passenger fled.
Despite an extensive search of the area with the assistance of specialist resources, he was unable to be located.
During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly seized two pistols, an assault rifle, and other weapons. A number of spent cartridges were also located and seized at the scene.
The 20-year-old has since been charged and remains before the court.
Officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command commenced an investigation under Strike Force Andelys.
As part of ongoing inquiries – with the assistance of Australian Federal Police and Queensland Police – a 20-year-old man was arrested at Brisbane Airport today (Friday, January 3).
Detectives will travel to Queensland and apply for the man’s extradition.
Inquiries under Strike Force Andelys continue.
