When new MP Jenny Ware wanted to find out about the state of manufacturing in South Western Sydney she didn’t have far to go.
Engineering firm Moxon Industries, located within her electorate of Hughes, offered to give the Liberal MP a first hand look at what’s working and what can be improved in the small to medium manufacturing sector.
A site visit to the Moxon factory located in Seton Road, Moorebank, took place earlier this month.
Company owner Sam Matandos and key account manager John Colvin were on hand to show Ms Ware around the factory, including the different work stations, a newly installed laser cutting machine and the machine shop.
“After being cordially invited to visit Moxon Industries to sight our innovative manufacturing operations and our close association with the rail industry, Ms Ware asked several questions about manufacturing in the South West Sydney area,’’ Mr Matandos said.
Ms Ware wanted to know about what obstacles Moxon Industries face in rail, competing with China and other international forces, the manufacturing advantages other Australian states have over NSW and about the benefits of introducing high speed rail to the Australian market.
“Ms Ware showed a keen interest and positivity on Moxon’s utilisation of government job providers encompassing disability providers, and our employment of two current first year apprenticeships,’’ Mr Colvin said.
“This was a great opportunity for Moxon Industries not only to showcase our skill sets, innovative work practices and how we problem solve the most difficult projects we are involved within rail, but also to highlight the growing difficulties facing many business in NSW during these turbulent times,’’ he said.
