The Mountain Devils may be based in Campbelltown, but their bushwalking excursions take them far and wide.

From walks close by in Dharawal National Park at Wedderburn to a weekend trip to the Grampians (pictured above) or a river cruise, the Devils are an active bushwalking and social club.

Tony Muscio, the club’s publicity officer, says members come from the local area as well as other parts of Greater Sydney.

“We have our meeting monthly in the Campbeltown Catholic club, and one or more walks every week, usually on the weekend,’’ he says.

“Our walks and some camping weekends can be anywhere but usually a train or car share away.’’

Now the club is hoping to attract new members.

“We do have a steady trickle of new members, but there is a good chance there are local people that would be interested, who don’t find out about us,’’ says Mr Muscio.

“We are also keen to get a more diverse age group, and with more members we may hold more walks, perhaps divided into easy and city walks and more challenging bush walks.

“I am currently exploring a range of outreach options for once we try some initiatives.’’

According to their website, the Mountain Devils is a club “dedicated to the enjoyment of the great Australian bush in the company of people who share a passion for its beauty and also provide wider opportunities for the creation of friendships through regular social activities’’.

“We walk in national parks and other areas of natural beauty. Also, along harbour foreshores and in historic suburbs and all walks are graded according to their difficulty,’’ says Mr Muscio.

“Social activities can be visits to museums, galleries and lunches.’’

The club is run on a voluntary basis by a duly elected committee and volunteer walk and social activity leaders. Club meetings are conducted on the first Monday of each month at the Campbelltown Catholic Club at 7:30pm. For more information visit their website here.
