South West Sydney is set to get an incident management and response team to deploy rapidly to accidents and traffic delays.

To establish the team, tomorrow’s NSW budget will include a $29.6 million allocation.

The funding delivered will allow for the onboarding of up to 50 staff, predominately field based frontline personnel.

This team will help provide 24 hour incident response services across the region and the Western Sydney Airport precinct.

In the event of a traffic incident or car crash, the new team will be able to respond to ensure the site can be made safe, traffic can be detoured around the incident and the network can be restored more quickly.

The Member for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty, and Member for Liverpool, Charishma Kaliyanda (pictured above), have welcomed this funding as a key measure to make sure locals can get where they need to go safely and efficiently.

“This is about keeping Leppington and South West Sydney moving as our region grows,’’ Mr Hagarty said.

“With the new airport coming, we need roads that can handle incidents quickly and safely.

“Traffic delays mean more than just frustration – they take time away from work, school, and family. This new Incident Management and Response Team is a smart investment that will deliver faster responses and safer roads for everyone.”

Ms Kaliyanda said everyone knows how one crash can bring traffic to a standstill.

“This new team means we can minimise how long people are stuck and get traffic flowing again,’’ she said.

“A 24/7 airport needs a 24/7 road response – that’s exactly what this new team will help deliver.

“Whether it’s a breakdown at 3pm or a crash at 3am, we’ll have people on the ground to keep the network safe and moving.’’

The funding will also support technology upgrades to the Transport Management Centre, which will provide greater support for operations and monitoring across Western Sydney.

It will also allow for the leasing of new incident response vehicles.
