Motorcyclist in hospital after crash during police pursuit

A motorcyclist involved in a police pursuit was injured when he collided with a vehicle near Liverpool earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to Bernera Road at Prestons after reports of a motorcycle crash around 5.30am.

Officers from the Liverpool Police Area Command initiated and then terminated a pursuit involving the motorcyclist a short time before the rider collided with a vehicle and was ejected from the bike.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics then taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment.

A critical incident investigation has now been launched, which will be subject to independent review.

No further details are available at this time, however, police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

In a separate incident, a disqualified driver was charged after allegedly drink-driving and crashing into a railing at The Oaks on Wednesday night.

Police say they were called to Burrogorang Road, The Oaks, following reports a Ford Falcon utility was allegedly speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road.

On arrival, officers from Camden Police Area Command located the utility, which had crashed into a metal guard rail.

Police were told the driver had run into nearby bushland.

With assistance from PolAir and the Dog Unit, officers commenced an extensive search of the bushland.

About 9.30pm, a 47-year-old man was located and arrested.

He was taken to Narellan Police Station, where he was charged with drive recklessly-furiously or speed-manner dangerous, driving while disqualified, and drive vehicle under influence of alcohol.

The Austral man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear before Picton Local Court on Wednesday, November 30.
