A critical incident investigation has been declared following a pursuit in which a motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries.
Just before 2pm on Friday, officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command attempted to stop the rider of a motorcycle on Menangle Road, Menangle Park, in relation to a traffic offence.
When the motorcycle failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, police found the motorcycle had crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of Menangle Road and Spring Farm Parkway, Menangle Park.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the male rider for serious injuries before he was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital for further treatment.
A Critical Incident Team from Auburn Police Area Command will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, assisted by the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a man missing from Sydney’s south west.
David Clements, aged 60, was last seen on Oxford Road, Ingleburn, about 3.40pm on Saturday (August 1).
Officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.
Police hold concerns for his welfare.
David is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 170cm tall, of medium build, with grey bald hair and green eyes.
He was last seen wearing a grey jumper, a brown ‘Lonsdale’ top, blue jeans, dark shoes and a grey beanie.
David is believed to frequent the Sydney’s CBD area.
If sighted, police urge public to not approach but to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
