Motorbike rider, 17, charged after crashing at Bradbury

A critical incident investigation is under way following a pursuit and crash near the Campbelltown town centre.

Officers attached to Campbelltown Highway Patrol attempted to stop a motorcycle about 11.20pm on Friday after it was spotted speeding on St Johns Road at Bradbury.

When the rider failed to stop when directed, a pursuit was initiated; however, the bike crashed less than 30 seconds later.

A 15 year old girl riding pillion was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for leg injuries.

She was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead to undergo surgery.

Police say her injuries are not reported to be life-threatening.

The rider, a 17 year old male, suffered minor injuries and remains in Liverpool Hospital under police guard.

Police will allege the rider, who was wearing a balaclava but no helmet, returned positive roadside tests for both alcohol and cannabis.

Checks revealed he was a suspended learner-rider.

The teenage boy has now been charged with seven offences:

  • Aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm
  • Fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact occasioning grievous bodily harm
  • Drive with low-range PCA
  • Not wear securely-fitted approved helmet while riding a motorbike
  • exceed speed limit by more than 30kmh 45kmh)
  • Carry person other than learner, and number plate obscured or defaced.

The youth was refused bail to appear in Parramatta (Bail Division) Children’s Court on Saturday.

A Critical Incident Team from Burwood Police Area Command will lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Specialist officers attached to the Crash investigation Unit (CIU) are conducting inquiries into the crash.

The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
