With serious concerns for his welfare, when Darren Hiron was reported missing this morning, police pulled out all stops to find the man from Narellan Vale.

Police first reported his case to the media just before 10am this morning in a bid to spread the word and get help from the public.

The 56-year-old was last seen at his Narellan Vale home about 1.30am today.

The massive effort to find him, which included police sending a geo-targeted text message, paid off when he was found safe and well in Blacktown at 2.28pm this afternoon.

Police would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance in finding Mr Hiron.

Police are continuing to appeal for public assistance to locate another person reported missing, a teenager from the Southern Highlands.

Shae Gray, aged 14, was last seen at Campbelltown train station on December 19.

Officers attached to The Hume Police Area Command were notified on January 1 and immediately commenced inquiries to locate her.

Police and family hold concerns for her welfare due to her young age.

Shae is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 145cm tall, medium build, with long red hair, and blue eyes.

She was last seen wearing a long beige skirt, short black top, black cardigan, with black and white coloured Nike sandals.

Anyone with information into Shae’s whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

  1. Why was a geo-targeted text message not sent out to find the 14 yr old girl? Is not this young girl just as vulnerable if not more so than a 56 yr old man.

  2. Agreed! I’m blown away she went missing on 19th and the police were told on the 1st. Where are the friends she should have been with? I hope she didn’t venture out on her own. This highlights the importance of geographically staying safe, letting family know where you’ll be, using the google maps tracker. You just can’t trust people or chance these days. Sadly these missing person cases seem most effective when you search immediately.
