On Friday night, a house in Minto was deliberately set on fire by persons unknown.

At 9.30am on Saturday, barely 12 hours later, two men were shot in a park at Claymore, a seven minute drive from Minto.

Police believe the two incidents may be related.

“This is a targeted attack, people who deliberately went out for some other people,’’ Superintendent Grant Healey, Campbelltown City Police Area Commander, told the media on Saturday afternoon.

Supt Healy, pictured above, said he was concerned such violent incidents in public places like a park were a threat to the safety of the community.

“We will fully investigate this and put these people before the courts,’’ he said.

Police were called to a shop in Claymore following reports a man who had been shot in a nearby park had sought medical help around 9.30am.

A short time later, police were called to a reserve on Proctor Way, Claymore, after a man was located with gunshot wounds to his head and torso.

Both men, aged 29 and 31, were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital, one of them in a serious condition.

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Operation Waratah, which was established in July by officers attached to Police Transport Command, has resulted in the arrest of 227 people for offences such as domestic violence, assault, theft, sexual touching, drug and weapon offences.

One of the incidents that led to an arrest occurred in January this year when police were called to Edmonson Park railway station, following reports a man had allegedly groped a woman without her consent.

Officers arrived and were told the man had allegedly followed a 23-year-old woman around the station before touching her in a sexual manner without her consent.

Following extensive inquiries Operation Waratah officers arrested a 19-year-old man at Bankstown Police Station last Thursday.

The man was charged with sexually touching another person without consent and common assault.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court on August 22.
