Macarthur FC are continuing to build nicely for next season, locking in South West Sydney local Michael Ruhs for another year.
Bulls fans, who quickly took to the aggressive young forward, will be delighted by the news.
The Sydney United 58 junior made his A-League debut in the club’s first ever home match at Campbelltown Stadium.
Ruhs finished with a tally of 15 matches in the Bulls colours during the Covid-affected 2020-21 season.
He may be only 18 but it was hard to miss him when he’s on the field: Ruhs is a big unit with a big motor and given a normal season in 2021-22 he could cement a long term spot in Macarthur FC.
The Horsley Park local found himself on the score sheet twice in his debut season, netting his first A-League goal in the Bulls 1-all draw with Melbourne City at Campbelltown Stadium, before sealing a thrilling extra-time semi final victory over Central Coast Mariners in the 119th minute.
Ruhs said he was excited to remain with the Bulls next season.
“To be given the opportunity to represent the area I have grown up in is a dream come true,” he said.
“I’m very excited to stay with the Bulls and I thank Ante Milicic and the coaching staff for their belief in me.
“It’s been great to learn off some of the experienced players in the changeroom, about the focus and commitment that it takes to be a professional footballer.
“I can’t wait to start the hard work again for the upcoming season and look forward to wearing the jersey with pride.”
Milicic is another who knows the young man has a big physical presence on the pitch for an 18 year old.
“One thing that stood out to me this season was his willingness to improve his technical ability by learning off some of the senior players in the squad,” Milicic said.
“The way he has integrated into the playing group at such a young age, straight out of high school, is commendable.
“However the challenge will be for him to improve on the foundation laid last season.”
