Mayoral Christmas appeals are worthy efforts every year. But some years they are even more important, and 2024 is one of them.
The cost of living has gone through the roof in just about every area, from food to rents to mortgages.
Which means there’s a terrible toll of more people than ever who will be doing it tough this Christmas.
That’s where those of us who are doing a little better come in and help via appeals like the Mayor’s Giving Tree Christmas Appeal in Wollondilly.
Mayor Matt Gould says gifts received will help support those in the Wollondilly community who are doing it tough this Christmas and beyond.
“I know many members of our community are still doing it tough this year due to cost of living pressures and uncertainty about world events,’’ he says.
“In the true spirit of the holidays, I’d love to see everyone come together as a community to support each other, as we always do in the Wollondilly Shire.
“As Christmas draws nearer I’m asking residents to lend a hand to those that need it most.
“By donating a child’s gift, gift card or non-perishable food items, you can make a huge difference to children and families this Christmas,” Mayor Gould said.
The mayor is encouraging residents to embrace the spirit of giving by donating unwrapped gifts for children between 0-12 years old, gift vouchers for teenagers 13-17 years old or non-perishable food items to help families in need.
All gifts can be dropped at one of the designated delivery points.
Donations can be made at the council administration building or children’s services building in Picton, the Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre, Community Links Wollondilly at Tahmoor, the Dilly Wanderer or the mobile library by December 13.
