A man was due to appear in Campbelltown Local Court today to face several charges in the wake of yesterday’s stand-off with police in Macquarie Fields.

About 11.20am (Wednesday, January 17, 2024), officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command attempted to stop a motor vehicle travelling on Henderson Road, Ingleburn.

Police will allege the man failed to stop as directed and continued to Saligna Way, Macquarie Fields.

There, it is alleged, he crashed into a fence before getting out of the vehicle and running into a nearby house, refusing to leave.

A perimeter was established and specialist officers from the Negotiations Unit, Tactical Operations Group and Dog Unit were called to the scene to deal with the situation.

About 5pm, a 24-year-old man was arrested without further incident and taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with eight offences. They are:

  • Armed with intent to commit an indictable offence;
  • Use an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention;
  • Enter enclosed land [not prescribed premises] without lawful excuse;
  • Drive a motor vehicle during disqualification period;
  • Not stop vehicle when directed to do so;
  • Drive a conveyance taken without the consent of the legal owner;
  • Not give particulars to the owner of damaged property;
  • Intimidate police officer in execution of their duty [without actual bodily harm].
