Man with machete robs St Andrews service station

Investigations are continuing into an armed robbery of a service station in St Andrews last night.

Police say that at around 10.45pm a man entered the Ballantrae Drive station and threatened a male staff member with a large machete.

The man, dressed in a black hooded jumper, long dark pants, gloves and a balaclava, demanded money before grabbing the cash and running out on foot.

Service station staff contacted police and officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command established a crime scene.

Their initial investigation included the assistance of the police Dog Unit.

As part of their inquiries, investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision in the area at the time to come forward.

In a separate incident a man has appeared in court to face charges relating to alleged possession of a pistol and knife.

Officers attached to Campbelltown Police Area Command were conducting a proactive crime operation on Broughton Street, Campbelltown late last week when they spoke with a 30-year-old man.

It is alleged a search of a bag the man was carrying revealed a pistol and a knife.

The man was arrested and taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he allegedly became violent towards officers.

After a short struggle he was restrained and then charged with possession of carrying an unauthorised pistol, custody of a knife in a public place and three counts of assaulting police.

He was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court last Friday.
