Macarthur Magic Special Needs Football Club is in line to be named NSW community club of the year in the 2025 Sport NSW awards.

The nomination comes just a few days after club founder Geoff Golden was named senior volunteer at the 2025 Wests Sports volunteer of the year awards.

Macarthur Magic has been a huge success since it was founded by Mr Golden in 2012.

It is now one of the largest inclusive soccer clubs across Australia, with currently 130 registered players, boys and girls.

However, Macarthur Magic wasn’t the only Macarthur region finalist for the NSW Community Sports Awards, which recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals, clubs, and organisations to community sport across our great state.

Wollondilly Shire Council is a finalist in the council of the year award category, so Macarthur may bag two winners at the special presentation night on June 30.

The awards celebrate excellence in 12 categories, acknowledge the vital role of volunteers, administrators, officials, coaches, local clubs and councils in driving grassroots sport in NSW.

Sport NSW CEO, Stuart Hodge, said the finalists reflect the relentless strength, passion, and diversity of community sport throughout the state.

“Community sport is the heartbeat of so many towns and suburbs in NSW, and these finalists represent the very best of our sporting community,’’ Mr Hodge said.

“Their dedication ensures thousands of people enjoy safe, inclusive, diverse and rewarding sport experiences every week.

“This immense contribution is overwhelmingly conducted by energetic volunteers, and we thank them all for their unflagging commitment to ensure sport is played and enjoyed every week. They provide the backbone to Australian sport as participants move through the many exciting stages of their sporting journey.

“We congratulate our finalists and thank all entrants for their nominations.’’
