Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren says the green light for Landcom’s giant Macarthur Gardens North development shows the NSW Government is getting on with the job of delivering more homes for Macarthur, one of the fastest growing areas in Greater Sydney.
The Macarthur Gardens North precinct plan is located on the western side of Macarthur Railway Station, along Goldsmith Avenue in Campbelltown.
Landcom has been given approval by the State Government to scale up its housing development at Macarthur Gardens North, allowing hundreds more homes to be unlocked for the growing South Western Sydney region.
Landcom updated its master planning for Macarthur Gardens North to deliver 625 apartments – meaning a further 375 homes can be built.
It followed approval allowing varied building heights of between nine to 24 storeys across the site.
“As we continue to address the housing challenges in NSW, the Macarthur Gardens North development will unlock more housing choices in a beautiful part of our city,” Mr Warren said.
The project includes:
• Up to 1,625 homes, including a mix of apartment sizes to suit a range of lifestyles.
• Approximately 163 affordable homes.
• Retention of more than seven hectares of Cumberland Plain Woodland and River Flat Eucalypt Forest, providing shading over more than 50 per cent of the site.
• New community open spaces, including central park, fitness park, station arrival plaza and pedestrian walkway connecting to the Macarthur Heights community, Western Sydney University and TAFE.
• Over 1 km of shared cycle and walking path alongside Bow Bowing Creek, connected to Gilchrist Oval in the east and new sports fields to the west.
“As our city grows and the demand for new housing increases, Landcom is stepping up to maximise the opportunities on existing development sites to make more homes happen,’’ says Landcom CEO Alex Wendler.
“This is a great example of density done well – we’re enabling a range of diverse housing choices for new residents, connected to public transport, open spaces and services.”
Landcom has kickstarted delivery after submitting two separate development applications for buildings, including:
• a Development Application for 216 apartments across two buildings with Campbelltown City Council; and
• a State Significant Development Application for 130 affordable homes with the NSW Government.
Landcom has invested $25 million to prepare the site for development, including roads, essential infrastructure and parks, which are on track to be completed later this year.
The first homes are expected to be completed by 2028.
