A 26 year old provisional driver has been charged after being detected allegedly travelling at 170km/h on the Hume Motorway at Menangle Park overnight.
The man has also been charged with drink driving and his driver’s licence suspended.
Officers attached to Macarthur Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement duties about 10pm yesterday (Thursday, October 5), when a hatchback was allegedly seen travelling at high speed.
A speed check revealed the vehicle travelling at 170km/h in a signposted 110km/h zone.
Police say that the driver was stopped and subjected to a roadside breath test.
When the driver allegedly returned a positive result, he was arrested by the police.
He was taken to Eagle Vale Police Station where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.110.
The man, from Bargo, has now been issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice (FCAN), for the offences of driving recklessly/furiously or in a speed/manner dangerous, P1 driver exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, and driving with mid-range PCA.
The man is due to appear before the Picton Local Court on November 8.
