Campbelltown City Library has hit the road, literally, travelling to local events, services and schools as part of the Library Unplugged outreach program.
Powered by a new Renault Kangoo electric van, Library Unplugged was launched during Saturday’s Ingleburn Alive festival.
The van will initially target developing areas, community events, aged care facilities and isolated residents, with plans to extend the service to community groups and organisations in the future.
“The new e-van will bring services out to the community and ensure people who may not be able to get to one of our library branches are able to enjoy our inclusive and accessible programs,” Mayor George Greiss said.
“One of the major priorities of our Library Strategic Plan, identified through consultation with our community, was to deliver more outreach services which is why we have launched the Library Unplugged service,” Cr Greiss said.
“It’s also a great step in ensuring council services are sustainable and we are reducing our emissions as an organisation,” he said.
“This new e-van is not only a great step in bringing our wonderful library services to isolated areas of our community, but also a wonderful step in achieving council’s net-zero emissions target,” said Cr Greiss, who is pictured above with members of the library team and Cr Riley Munro at Saturday’s official launch.
The project is funded through the public library infrastructure grants program administered by the State Library of NSW on behalf of the Library Council of NSW.
