Construction has commenced on a major new park at South Western Sydney boom suburb Leppington.

The $4.5 million transformation will see existing pastureland on Camden Valley Way opposite Forest Lawn Memorial Park converted into a new 7.6-hectare parkland by early next year.

Spaces to play, pedestrian and cycle paths, an inclusive play space and a basketball half-court as part of a new youth hub will all be part of the new public amenity for the residents of Leppington.

It will also be easily accessible for current and future residents.

The location of the new park is a short drive from the Leppington and Liverpool city centres.

Construction on the project is expected to be completed by early 2025.

“Leppington Park will have loads of activities and will be a great public open space for families in Leppington to enjoy,’’ says local state MP Nathan Hagarty, pictured (centre) during the turning of the sod ceremony.

“The new park embraces the existing natural aspects of the site and connects with and respects the history of this area.”

As part of the State Government’s drive to address the housing crisis with the delivery of more well-located and well-serviced homes, it is also delivering vibrant and accessible public spaces to support better communities via its Parks for people program.

The new park is one of seven projects delivered across Sydney to deliver better access to public open spaces, in partnership with council and the community.

“It is important that there are vibrant public open spaces for the community to gather, play and relax and the NSW Government is delivering that to the Leppington community,’’ says minister for planning and public spaces Paul Scully.

“I’m sure this park will become a cherished public space that will be enjoyed by people young and old for generations to come.”
