Work to deliver a new commuter car park with up to 1,000 additional spaces at Leppington Station is on track to start mid-year after plans for the project were approved.
Member for Camden Peter Sidgreaves said the upgrade is part of the NSW Government’s commuter car park program, which is an initiative to provide commuters with more convenient access to public transport at key transport interchanges, and help ease congestion on roads.
“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to provide feedback on the plans during the consultation period last month,” Mr Sidgreaves said.
“Feedback received during the consultation period has been considered in the development of the review of environment factors, which is the formal planning document for this project.
The new car park with up to 1,000 additional spaces will include:
- free parking for up to 18 hours with Transport Park&Ride
- lift access
- road pavement and pedestrian pathway upgrades
- CCTV, lighting and wayfinding for improved safety and security
- Provision for electric vehicle charging spaces and motorbike parking is also being assessed.
Additional accessible parking spaces will also be constructed in the station precinct.
“Detailed design work will begin shortly with major construction due to start around midyear and finish mid-2021,” the Camden MP said.
During construction some existing car spaces will be unavailable in order to complete the work safely and alternative temporary parking will be available to offset these spaces.
Transport for NSW is working with key stakeholders to finalise plans for the temporary car park and more information will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.
