In a display of raw determination and skill beyond his eight years, Lennox Fielding has been crowned NSW karting champion in the novice category.
To win the under 9s title, the whiz kid from Cobbitty delivered a remarkable comeback performance at Eastern Creek on the weekend.
Lennox Fielding’s path to the championship podium was hard fought: the young novice driver faced adversity from the opening heat when he was knocked off the track and failed to finish.
But what followed was a masterclass in resilience and racing craft.
Heat 2 saw Lennox claw his way back from the rear of the pack, demonstrating the fighting spirit that would ultimately secure his championship crown.
Heat 3 proved pivotal as he muscled his way to a third-place finish, setting up a dramatic final showdown.
Starting from P5 in the 20 lap championship final, Lennox executed a tactical masterpiece – over the course of the race he methodically overtook his rivals, reaching the top three before launching his challenge on the leaders.
The decisive moment came on lap 18 when Lennox engaged in an intense battle for supremacy, trading positions between P1 and P2 in a breathtaking display of wheel-to-wheel racing.
After seizing the lead, Lennox held it through the checkered flag, securing both the race victory and the state championship title and the right to display the coveted Blue Plate with Number 1 for the next 12 months.
Adding to his dominant final performance, Lennox also recorded the fastest lap in Heat 2, Heat 3 and the final race, reaching speeds of up to 94 km/h and proving he had both the pace and the race craft to be champion.
What makes Lennox Fielding’s championship victory even more extraordinary is that he only began racing just 12 months ago.
The young cadet driver has exceeded expectations, progressing from a complete newcomer to state champion in a single season.
This state championship victory cements his status as one of the most promising young motorsport talents and sets the stage for an exciting future in karting.
