It’s a big thumbs up for Go4Fun from local mum Sajida Batool and her daughters Eshaal and Rameen, aged 10 and 8.

They are one of more than 13,000 families across NSW who have joined Go4Fun since the program started 11 years ago.

Trained health professionals deliver the Go4Fun program to children aged 7 to 13 who are above a healthy weight – and their families.

“Eshaal and Rameen like playing football, soccer and handball in the backyard,’’ says Mrs Batool.

“We enjoy healthy food choices and we read food labels. We have reduced our sugar and salt intake and we use wholewheat flour.

“I’ve been using the Go4Fun recipes and making healthy muffins. We will have these skills for life.’’

Karen Wardle, the acting health promotion service of the South Western Sydney Local Health District says children attend a session with a parent or carer once a week for Go4Fun.

Together they learn about healthy eating including tools and tips on reading food labels and portion sizes.

“Children enjoy fun games and learn new ways to stay active,’’ says Ms Wardle.

“Parents and children also participate in activities like supermarket visits to help them make healthy food choices when they are shopping.

“Every member of the family benefits from Go4Fun and can use these practical skills for the rest of their lives.’’
