Camden MP Sally Quinnell says that traffic lights at the Wire Lane and Remembrance Drive intersection are the ultimate solution for this blackspot in Camden South.
“But doing nothing in the meantime is not an option,’’ says Ms Quinnell ahead of the start of work on March 15 to implement interim measures.
“That is why I have worked with the Roads Minister to put immediate safety measures in place.’’
The work will include:
- Installation of a new No U-Turn sign southbound at the Wire Lane and Remembrance Drive intersection
- Installation of signage directing drivers to use the roundabout at Bridgewater Boulevard, approximately 700m south, to safely turn around
- Extension of the No Stopping zone outside Camden Valley Inn
- Replacement of the existing Give Way sign at Wire Lane with a Stop sign
- New line marking to support the Stop sign installation
The Camden MP says she has been working with residents and the NSW Government to progress both short-term and long-term solutions.
“I know this stretch of road is dangerous, and I know there has been loss. For many families, this isn’t just about infrastructure – it’s deeply personal,” Ms Quinnell said.
“Permanent traffic lights remain the ultimate solution.
“I worked to secure planning funding for those lights, and that planning is now well under way.
“While construction funding has not yet been secured, I am continuing to advocate strongly to see those traffic lights delivered.
“These interim upgrades are designed to improve visibility, reduce the risk of crashes, and make this intersection safer while we continue pushing for the long-term solution.
“This is not the final answer, and it is not the finish line. We will continue advocating for permanent traffic lights and further safety improvements because our community deserves safer roads.”
