Young residents dreaming of winning gold medals in swimming won’t have far to go for training when Camden’s first Olympic sized indoor swimming pool opens in 2024.

As part of a major upgrade given the green light by Camden Council earlier this week, Oran Park Leisure Centre will offer a new 50-metre indoor swimming pool, bigger gym area and leisure water area and decked car park structure.

Camden Council at its meeting on Tuesday accepted the tender by Warren and Mahoney Architects Australia Pty Ltd for the design of the facility.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said the centre will add another state of the art sport and recreation facility to the area.

“Council is committed to providing the community with high quality sport and recreation facilities.

“An an expanded Oran Park Leisure Centre will help meet the community’s needs,” Cr Fedeli said.

“Upgrading the pool from 25 metres to 50 metres will much better serve the community, as will an expanded gym area and decked car park.

“It is exciting to think the Camden area will be home to so many state of the art sporting facilities in the future.

“This includes Narellan Sports Hub, the Fergusons Land Cricket Facility, our new Kirkham Park BMX park, our first synthetic football field at Nott Oval in Narellan and soon the Oran Park Leisure Centre.

“The developer contributions from Greenfields Development Company will enable council to design and construct the Oran Park Leisure centre, another state of the art facility for the community.

“I look forward to seeing the design of the facility in the near future.”

The facility has an estimated completion date of mid to late 2024.
