Raby Sports Complex is already one of the best suburban cricket facilities in metropolitan Sydney – if not the best. Now a $4.86 million indoor cricket facility on the way could take Raby to the top.

The new facility will include six lanes and nets, increasing the capacity for all-weather training year round.

Yesterday, Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss joined Member for Leppington Nathan Hagarty, Campbelltown-Camden District Cricket Club president Morris Iemma, and Dean Hunter and David Tricca from Cricket NSW and Cricket Australia respectively to turn the first sod on the project.

“Raby Sports Complex is one of Campbelltown’s premier sporting precincts with a fantastic reputation across Sydney,” Mayor Greiss said.

“The new indoor cricket centre will supplement the existing world class facilities and increase opportunities for high performance training and coaching in the region to ensure the next generation of local cricket stars can learn and develop their skills,” he said.

Mr Hagarty said Macarthur region was home to some of the best up-and-coming athletes in the nation and this project would ensure they can hone their craft in their own back yard.

“This project will complement the investments the NSW Government is making in sports and youth in my electorate of Leppington and the South West,’’ Mr Hagarty said.

The project is funded by Campbelltown Council, the NSW Government through the NSW Greater Cities Sport Facility Fund and NSW ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Cricket Legacy Fund, as well as Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW.
