A double flying fox, sway fun glider, rain wheel and a water play area will be just some of the features of a wonderful new play space at Glenfield Park.

But there’s going to be quite a few more at Variety Livvi’s Place Glenfield, where work started yesterday.

Designed in conjunction with Variety – the Children’s Charity and Touched by Olivia Foundation, the inclusive play space will also have a bike track, giant swing, climbing log, musical poles, in-ground trampoline, sculpture areas and sandstone climbing areas.

Construction on the project is expected to be complete by March next year.

The $2 million project is being funded by the NSW Government’s precinct support scheme.

“This new playground is the result of community collaboration and will be a fantastic place for families to socialise and for children to play,” says Campbelltown Mayor George Brticevic.

“We are focused on providing more inclusive facilities such as this in our park and playground upgrade plans to support the health and wellbeing of our whole community,” Cr Brticevic said.

The NSW department of planning, industry and environment’s group deputy secretary of place, design and public spaces Alex O’Mara said the new playground will provide a fantastic new place to play for everybody, regardless of age or ability.

“Our open spaces and green infrastructure are vital to our physical and mental health and we are committed to ensuring our parks, playgrounds and public spaces are in place as communities grow,” Ms O’Mara said.

Variety inclusive play manager Kim Becherand said Livvi’s Place play spaces provided an opportunity for all kids to play together.

“Variety Livvi’s Place Glenfield is an exciting part of our mission to make play available to all kids within their local communities.

“We have worked with community groups and council to design this incredible play space together which will meet the needs of all in the community now and into the future,” she said.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with forward thinking communities, such as Campbelltown City Council, to begin changing the way public play spaces are built.’’

Variety Board member and Touched by Olivia Foundation founder Justine Perkins said that it was “wonderful to see Livvi’s legacy live on in more inclusive play spaces, to ensure all children have the chance to play.”
