Crash investigators are appealing for public assistance as investigations continue into a hit and run that left a man critically injured.
Emergency services were called to the Hume Highway near Liverpool following reports a man had been hit by a vehicle around 8.30pm on Monday.
Officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attended and found a man lying on the road.
The 62-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
Police established a crime scene which was forensically examined with the assistance of specialist officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit, who have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash under Strike Force Promote.
As inquiries continue, crash investigators have released images of a Mazda 3 and a silver utility, they believe whoever was driving these vehicles may be able to assist with their inquiries.
The dark coloured Mazda 3 is believed to be missing a driver’s side mirror and the silver utility had blue sign writing along the passenger side.

In a separate incident, investigators of a home invasion in Glenfield have released further CCTV vision of two vehicles.
About 10.30pm on January 12, emergency services responded to reports of a home invasion on Gazelle Street, Glenfield.
Officers from Campbelltown Police Area Command attended and were told that five males forced entry into the home and reportedly assaulted a 44-year-old man inside the home with a firearm.
A 60-year-old man – who went to investigate the incident – was also reportedly struck with a firearm.
Both occupants were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition. They have since been released.
The men left the location in two separate vehicles.
As inquiries continue, detectives have released a further CCTV of two vehicles – a silver Nissan X-Trail and a white Toyota Corolla – seen in the Glenfield area before the home invasion.
Police believe the occupants of those vehicles may be able to assist with inquiries.
