Thanks for the nice new hospital, but where’s the staff for it?

Campbelltown may have a brand new hospital but our local MP has told parliament one thing that hasn’t changed are the chronic staff shortages.

Greg Warren, who is on the frontbench of the Labor opposition, called on the NSW Government to address the staffing shortage at Campbelltown Hospital once and for all.

Mr Warren introduced a notice of motion in the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of NSW this week to move that the House:

  • Acknowledges the supply of staff at Campbelltown Hospital is unable to cope with the growing demand of patients;
  • Recognises this is a long-standing and ongoing issue;
  • Demands the government acknowledge, address and resolve this issue once and for all;
  • Acknowledges all staff for their hard work and efforts during a very difficult time.

Mr Warren said he was incredulous with the NSW Government’s response to the 2020 Upper House inquiry examining the Current and Future Provision of Health Services in the South-West Sydney Growth Region.

“The Liberal and National Government have been well aware of the staffing crisis at Campbelltown Hospital for many, many years,” he said.

“However, it is clear they have no interest in actually acknowledging, addressing or resolving the crisis.

“When around half of the patients that present to Campbelltown Hospital’s emergency department have to wait more than four hours to leave the ED – which is the current benchmark – it’s clear there is a serious problem.

“The Upper House inquiry in 2020 provided a comprehensive list of recommendations to assist all hospitals throughout the South Western Sydney region – including here in Campbelltown.

“The Perrottet Government’s response to that inquiry has been nothing short of dismal, disappointing and disgraceful.

“Ultimately it is patients, their loved ones and staff who are paying the price for this neglect.”
