The 2024 season finished a week earlier than the Campbelltown Harlequins would have liked, but it was more than a consolation to pick up some individual honours, reports ANDREW CHOICE.

Campbelltown Harlequin Rugby club finished off the season this week attending competition award dinners.

On Wednesday evening Harlequins attended the Illawarra competition awards and grand final dinner.

This is always a prelude to the grand final and while the club was disappointed not to be playing in the decider, it was a most successful evening for the club with Norwin Latu (pictured) receiving the award for the competition’s top try scorer.

Malama Leatigaga took out the award for Illawarra representative player of the year, while last week’s man of the match Jo Mar was just pipped at the post for Illawarra player of the year and having to be content with the runner up’s trophy.

It’s fair to say that was a great effort from the club.

On Thursday the spotlight shifted to Sydney Uni where the girls had their presentation evening and formally received the second Division Grand final trophy.

This was not only a good night for the club to be recognised by their peers for a great introductory season in Sydney Rugby, but it also provided a great opportunity to wish Atasi Lafai and Sally Fuesaina all the best as they leave for Ireland and South Africa with the Wallaroos.

In some other rugby news, Harlequins will host the 2024 Pacifika Tournament at Campbelltown Showground.

The four week tournament will start on September 28 and finish on October 19.

It will feature teams representing Samoa, Fiji, Tonga and the Cook Islands in men’s, women’s and under 19 sides.

This is a high quality tournament and is part of the NSW rugby program and will result in players being picked for Pasifika to play the NSW Waratahs in the new year.

Stay tuned for more details.
