Children who are home schooled will have the opportunity to make new friends, access a greater range of resources and build a support network, thanks to Camden Council’s newest program.
Homeschoolers Day Program, which will be held every second Friday during school term at Narellan Library (above), also aims to help home schooled children develop interpersonal and social skills while meeting new people.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said it was a great opportunity for local families.
“There are so many benefits of this program,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Children, who may suffer from severe social anxiety, will be able to make new friends in a safe space.
“Families who don’t have the same support and information available to them, compared to those in traditional schooling systems, will feel supported and connected.
“I encourage eligible families to get involved and use the support of our libraries to make sure their children’s educate is the best it can be.”
The program will show students how to best use the library resources and give them technology tips, including coding.
Camden Council Library Services also provide a range of learning activities throughout the year, including:
- Space Digital Studios – workshops include introduction to computers, Adobe Photoshop, iPad basic and email located at Narellan Library;
- Volunteer Tutors – the library has a number of volunteer tutors who can provide one to one help in basic computer skills. Places are limited and bookings are essential;
- Open Space sessions – use of technology including computers.
