Transport for NSW says fencing will be installed along the median strip of the Hume Highway near De Meyrick Avenue, Casula.
The new fencing is a project identified through the Federal Road Safety Program, to encourage pedestrians to use safe crossing zones at nearby traffic signals.
This section of road has been selected for safety fencing to reduce incidences of people crossing the six lanes of highway away from safe traffic signal crossings, including local high school children.
The fencing will run along the median strip on both sides of the lights for around 140 metres. Installation will take place over five night shifts until March 24.
Transport for NSW is urging road users to exercise care and be aware there may be speed restrictions while work is being undertaken.
The permanent fencing is expected to be fully installed by March 25.
Improvement works in April will also mean changed traffic conditions on Pembroke Road between Minto Road and Ben Lomond Road, Minto and on Collins Promenade, at the roundabout connecting to Chester Road, Ingleburn.
Road crews will be onsite for up to 12 night shifts between Tuesday, April 1 and Wednesday, May 7.
Work hours will be between 8pm to 5am from Sunday to Thursday.
There will be no work on Friday or Saturday nights or public holidays.
Temporary traffic changes will be in place to make sure the work zone is safe for road workers and road users including lane closures and a 40km/h speed limit.
This work will increase safety for road users by preventing pooling and flooding on the road and help make future maintenance work easier and more effective.
Crews will be onsite for up to 8-day shifts between Monday, March 24 and Friday, April 4.
Work hours will be 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. No work will occur on Saturday or Sunday.
