As part of the major upgrade of Heathcote Road, from December 17 motorists will be diverted onto the new eastbound Williams Creek Bridge.

The diversion will occur during a traffic lane shift between Alec Campbell Drive and The Avenue

This will be the second bridge to be opened as part of the 2.2 kilometre jointly funded $188 million upgrade for Heathcote Road.

The latest bridge, pictured above on the left, has been designed and built to withstand a 1 in 100 year flood event.

Partial lane closures and traffic control measures on Heathcote Road between Infantry Parade, Holsworthy and The Avenue, Voyager Point will be in place to ensure the safety of workers and road users during the transition.

Transport for NSW says night works will be carried out along Heathcote Road between Alec Campbell Drive and The Avenuefrom 8pm next Monday (December 16) to 5am the next day (December 17), weather permitting.

Road users in this area are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.

Meanwhile a new signalised intersection is also being installed along Heathcote Road to replace the Macarthur Drive roundabout and improve safety for road users as part of the upgrade.

Transport for NSW thanks the community for their patience during this time.
