The heat is on, but where to go and cool off in Macarthur? Unfortunately for Campbelltown residents the Billabong Parklands will not be available for swimming until the end of summer of 2023-24, although existing pools at Bradbury, Eagle Vale and Macquarie Fields can offer some relief as the Mercury rises this weekend and beyond.

In Camden, the council water play spaces are now open for the 2023-24 season.

The water will turn on every day from 10am-7pm through to April at Dawson-Damer Park in Oran Park and Curry Reserve in Elderslie.

Dawson-Damer Park is currently the Macarthur region’s largest water play space.

It has a number of water and non-water activities, including water spinners, a ninja warrior course, swings, trampolines, basketball facilities, picnic areas and much more.

Being an inclusive facility, the award-winning Dawson-Damer Park also has wet play wheelchairs available for hire and adult change facilities.

Curry Reserve Water Play Space in Elderslie boasts a large splash pad with 36 play features for all inclusive, accessible fun for children of all ages.

The award-winning water place space is also an inclusive facility with accessible activities, wet play wheelchairs and a fully accessible and accredited public toilet and adult change facility.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, said she was excited to see the eagerly anticipated re-opening of council’s water play spaces.

“We know it’s expected to be a very warm spring and summer, and so we’re excited to provide a way for kids to cool off and have fun,” she said.

“Remember to slip, slop, slap, and we hope you enjoy these two incredible facilities.”

Anyone using these two facilities is asked to observe the safety and sanitation signage at each site and abide by all rules.

  1. It is unfortunate but I think all of our residents would have been better off if the money allocated to the Billabong was utilised to install a water park in each suburb. No travelling, no parking worries. Look at the success Camden has with its water parks…
