A new Headspace centre to open in Edmondson Park in the coming months will be just what the doctor ordered for those local young people aged 12-25 who are experiencing or are at risk of mild to moderate mental illness.

Headspace services provide care in four key areas: mental health, related physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drug support, and vocational services.

The Edmondson Park Headspace will be located at Shop AG02 Edmondson Square, 52 Soldiers Parade.

Local federal MP Anne Stanley – pictured above with assistant minister for mental health Emma McBride at Ed Square – says she can’t wait till it opens its doors.

“I’m excited Ed Square Town Centre will soon house a vital mental health service for local young people,’’ Ms Stanley said.

“We know that many young people need support right now and the provision of a Headspace service close to transport and new housing areas will assist so many.

“Headspace Edmondson Park will give young people and their families access to early intervention, holistic support and a helping hand to work towards a brighter future,” she said.

The location of the new centre is easily accessible by walking, car, bus and train services.

The centre will offer holistic mental health support to young people living across the region.

Federal Government says it’s investing over $290 million in the Headspace program during 2023-2024.

There are currently 160 headspace services operating nationally, with commitments to grow the network to 173 by 2025-2026.

“Young people deserve high quality mental health care and support, close to home,’’ says Emma McBride, the assistant minister for mental health and suicide prevention.

“That’s why the Albanese Government is expanding the headspace network, especially in communities with a large population of young people like south-west Sydney.’’

Headspace Edmondson Park has been commissioned by the South Western Sydney Primary Health Network and will be operated by Grand Pacific Health.

For young people who prefer online or phone support, eheadspace provides free, telephone and web-based services to young people aged 12 to 25 years with, or at risk of, developing mental illness.
