The home of Gunners soccer club, Bensley Road Reserve in Macquarie Fields, is getting a revamp, with a major upgrade to the clubhouse now under way.
Mayor Darcy Lound turned the first sod on the project today alongside Gunners Soccer Club president Gary Phillips, pictured below.
The $2.55 million project will deliver an expanded clubhouse (as pictured above) featuring new changerooms, referees room, meeting room, barbecue area, canteen facilities, storage rooms and outdoor spectator area in addition to paving and landscaping at the entrance to the reserve.
“Bensley Road Reserve is the long standing home of Gunners Soccer Club, one of Campbelltown’s largest clubs, supporting a significant number of junior and senior players in Macquarie Fields and the surrounding area,” Mayor of Campbelltown Darcy Lound said.
“This project will significantly improve the clubhouse facilities and create a more welcoming and accessible environment for players of all ages, as well as coaches, officials and spectators,” Cr Lound said.
Bensley Road Reserve is located adjacent to Hazlett Oval, which offers more sporting facilities.
The two facilities make up the sporting precinct of Macquarie Fields.
The Bensley Road Reserve project is expected to be complete in mid-2026, weather permitting.
