Two key road infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, safety, and accessibility in the Camden area will be completed over the next two and a half years.

Camden Council has announced that it has secured a $4.18 million grant from the Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure under the State Voluntary Planning Agreement funding program.

The projects to be funded are the Park Road, Leppington detailed design and construction, which will receive the bulk of the grant, $3.29 million.

Byron and Heath Road, Leppington signalisation project will receive $890,000.

The Park Road project, located in stage two of the Leppington precinct, will include a shared path and footpath, a parking area, flexible green spaces, and a culvert crossing at Scalabrini Creek.

Council-led upgrades will integrate with developer-led works to ensure seamless community connectivity.

The Byron and Heath Road intersection upgrade will introduce traffic signals to improve road safety, particularly for students crossing between the school and nearby sporting fields and playground.

The intersection is a critical link for local traffic heading towards Eastwood Road, Dickson Road, Rickard Road, and Camden Valley Way.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, pictured above, welcomed the funding.

“This is a fantastic outcome for the Camden area, as these projects will provide vital upgrades to support our rapidly growing population,” she said.

“The Park Road upgrade will transform it into a two-way urban collector road, incorporating pedestrian and cyclist pathways, green spaces and improved drainage and lighting.

“Meanwhile, the new traffic signals at the Byron and Heath Road intersection will enhance safety for school students, pedestrians and motorists.”

Cr Cagney also expressed her appreciation for the funding support.

“We sincerely thank the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for recognising the importance of these projects, and we appreciate the ongoing support from NSW planning minister Paul Scully, and Nathan Hagarty, Member for Leppington,” she said.

“The grant funding will be allocated over the next three financial years, ensuring the timely delivery of these essential infrastructure projects.
