Free hospital parking to end July 1

Staff at Campbelltown Hospital could be faced with the prospect of taking home less pay next month, compared to what they did a year ago.

An email sent to hospital staff recently warned that paid parking – for the first time – would begin at the hospital.

While no definitive date was provided, several people have told Campbelltown MP Greg Warren that the start date would be July 1 this year.

The email did confirm the introduction was imminent and that hospital staff would be paying $23.60 each week for parking.

Mr Warren says that should the government press ahead with its plans to cut the wages of public sector staff, it would mean staff at the hospital would be taking home less money next month than what they did in July 2019.

“I can’t imagine there would have been a single staff member at Campbelltown Hospital that would have thought in July 2019 that they would be taking home less pay 12 months down the track,” Mr Warren said.

“The NSW Liberals treatment of health workers can only be described as appalling.

“I have never been in favour of introducing paid parking at Campbelltown Hospital and never will.

“The majority of people who walk through those hospital doors are in need of serious medical attention – not a parking ticket. The introduction of paid parking at the hospital is simply profiteering of others’ misery.

“School fees, childcare fees, grocery bills, rent, electricity bills and water bills will all go up but the take home pay of Campbelltown Hospital staff would go down if the NSW Liberals had their way.

“It’s just ludicrous.”
